Coldwell Banker Bain of Bellingham has announced the online posting of its A Sum Of The Parts documentary, chronicling broker Derek Buse’s team experience at the 2017 Ski to Sea multi-sport relay race, in which the team ranked 20th out of 307. First run in 1973, the Ski to Sea is the original adventure race, a team relay from the Mt. Baker Ski area to Bellingham Bay. The race is held annually on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend in Whatcom County, Washington. Traditionally, a Ski to Sea team has consisted of eight racers competing in seven different sports: Cross Country Ski, Downhill Ski/Snowboard, Running, Road Bike, Canoe (2 paddlers), Cyclocross Bike, and Sea Kayak.
A Sum Of The Parts opens with Ski to Sea Race Director Anna Rankin describing the race, and recounts the journey of the CB Bain team as its develops, trains and competes in the 2017 Sea to Ski, while showcasing the region’s incredible landscapes. It features interviews with all team members, provides their race results, and offers sweeping drone footage of the region. The project was the brainchild of team leader Derek Buse, a Coldwell Banker Bain of Bellingham broker, and directed by Buse’s brother Caleb Buse, a local filmmaker, musician and real estate photographer. Additionally, A Sum Of The Parts features the amazing drone footage of Kjell Redal, a local cinematographer and journalist who produced the popular drone tour “Above Bellingham,” and whose work has been featured on NASA websites, and in The Seattle Times, The Weather Channel, USA Today, DP Review, FREESKIER Magazine, N2K TV, Trail Runner Magazine, and 303 Magazine, and The Bellingham Herald, among others.
In reflecting on his experience and motivation to participate in Bellingham’s largest and most popular community event that has over the years gained international notoriety, Derek Buse said, “As part of my work with Coldwell Banker Bain, I ‘market’ what it’s like to live in Whatcom County. As a long-time resident, I know how incredible the region is, and can speak to the beauty and quality of life it provides people interested in living here. A Sum Of The Parts was an opportunity to share my passion for this community and provide an visual testament of what being a part of it looks like.”
