Coldwell Banker Bain Leads Community Effort to Feed Residents of Kirkland’s Velocity House

Brokers of Coldwell Banker Bain of Kirkland led an effort in June to feed 50+ residents of Velocity, an apartment community located in Kirkland. The complex houses people who have incomes lower than 60% of the area median Income.

The office has been a long-time supporter of Velocity, and has hosted events supporting the residents that provided them with healthy dinners, interacting with and feeding between 30 – 50 people.

The June 23 event utilized $600 in donations from brokers, said Rich Whitehill, the office broker who has led these efforts since their inception. “In light of the continuing impacts of COVID in our community, and the real need for food and other resources by those in vulnerable positions, we felt it important to do what we could to help,” Rick said. “It’s also a great way for us to build relationships and help showcase and support a community restaurant like Acropolis, which is also struggling right now.”

Serving up grinders and salads was Acropolis Pizza & Pasta, a family-run Kirkland institution, in operation since 1973. Owners George and Happy Tsantilas, along with son Manny, not only provided their renowned grinders and individually packaged meals in order to comply with safety measure, they did so when the restaurant was closed due to an oven breakdown. Said Rich, “They truly stepped up during a difficult time and even joined us at Velocity to help with drop off.”

Velocity is one of 14 Imagine Housing owned and managed communities in East King County, home to over 1,200 people whose income is below 60% of the area median income. Residents include families, veterans, single parents, youth and adults who have been homeless, survivors of domestic violence, and people on a fixed income due to age, health, or disability. Community apartments provide individuals and families a place to live near their jobs, good schools, transportation, and health services.
